A brief study at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh pointed the way to a career in commercial art for the next 47 years. During this time, Jim was a freelance artist, owned his own commercial studio and spent two years as a U.S. Army illustrator.
Self taught as a fine artist, Jim has won numerous awards. Among them the Toledo Museum of Art May Show first award, Fifth Third Bank Downtown Art Exhibitation first place, National Bank Show of Toledo Most Popular Painting, Catherine Crampton Memorial Art Show Lakeside, Ohio second place, Ohio Plein Air Society annual competition honorable mention and winner of "Quick Draw" and best of all, won his high school sweetheart, Mary, wife and greatest supporter of his art for over 58 years.
Since retiring from commercial art in 1997 Jim has devoted his time to plein air painting, studio painting and various landscape and portrait commissions.
